Lee's Lament Lyrics: Joe Galante

General Lee:

What have i done?
Let me sit.
I feel so old
I'can't believe it.
I am not invincible.
I am at fault.
Should have listened to my generals.
Listened to anyone at all.

But I, I am he.
the maker of decisions.
the man who leads.
No time for doubt.
No time for second questions.
Not time to change my mind.
It's do or die.

And I am General Lee
Standing tall, proud of my army.
The war will go on.
Thought I'd bring it to an end.
They determined the fight-
the where, the how, the when.
My men fought and died these days.
I believed we would win.
We would triumph in the end
at Gettysburg.

Was it God's joke to lose here on Independence day?
Where was Stuart?
What didn't I know?
So many lost, I failed them I know.
Chamberlain held his ground.
So many fallen at Cemetery Ridge.
Was it too much to ask?
Or was it just our fate to lose?
